that can be made to aYaesu FT726R six metre module that
would enable it to cover the 48 and 49 Meg bands or maybe
even lower. I would appreciate any details or even better
is there anyone who could carry out the mods to the plug
in module without me having to send of the whole rig, then
please let me know what it would cost. I will gladly meet
any expenses. On a different tack, does anyone have any
info about getting aQSL from R3VHF. I tried the direct
route in July 1995 and to date I have had no reply. A
quick propogation report from the Mull of Kintyre
regarding winter Es. ZILCH, except hearing the OZ6VHF
beacon for about 20 minutes on the 18th December, and
despite numerous calls in that direction the band was
deserted. 73 for now and all the best for 1997. David. David MM0AMW <mm0amw@ndirect.co.uk> - Tuesday, December 31, 1996 at 00:27:00 (GMT) Happy New Year from Hamilton. Here is hoping and
wishful thinking that conditions will improve in 1997.
Thanks to the UKSMG for certificate numbers 001 for all
CW and All SSB Worked All America Award. The best DX here
all summer was a near miss with JA8 (8000 km) and FK8
worked (4000 km). A pretty poor response to the European
DX challenge. We will beat you next year HI! Hello from the former 4U/KC0PA in Western Sahara.
Have only recently entered the world of the Internet and
was pleased to find the UKSMG homepage. I operated just
over 100 stations on 6M while in Western Sahara, and if
any of you chaps have had trouble getting confirmed, let
me know and I'll see what I can do about that. My
callsign database address was old and useless while I was
in Africa but it should be correct in most, if not all,
the current ones. If not, my address is 209 Jupiter
Street, Sheppard AFB, TX 76311-1013, USA, and my e-mail
address is hardyt@wf.net and whatever is required to get
into the USA (sorry, but I'm new at this Internet thing).
Want to take the opportunity to say a belated "Thank
You" to Neil, G0JHC for his assistance getting a six
meter radio adn antenna from two American hams when I
popped home for holiday. Had no trouble taking it and a
Yaesu HF radio back through customs and all the other
roadblocks. Total contacts on HF were well over six
thousand in what little spare time I had while on the
United Nations mission in Western Sahara. This was my
first ever opportunity to be rare DX -- in fact, my first
time on HF in several years -- and I made some mistakes
early on but hopefully got most of them rectified later.
My six month tour in the Sahara Desert was definitely one
of the most exciting and unusual things I have ever done.
Anyway, if I can be of assistance to anyone who worked me
while I was there, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best 73 to all and "good DX!" Christmas. GB3RMK is back again after being off for
        a short period. GB3RMK Loc:IO77UO 50.0600. 73,s de Kenny 26 Dec - Another boomer day! ZL2/3, VK1/2/3/4/5
worked. See GJ4ICD Six News site for full report. Info
from Kerry ZL2TPY: In abt 2 wks Western Samoa will be
active with 5W1AU. He will run a beacon on 50.050 5W1WS
and will break it to operate if requested. Fax number is
        +685 26711 . (+685 in VK, but is +65 in ZL ???) Tried
number this morning and got FAX tones back - so number is
good. de Adam VK3ALM, sunny Melbourne. Merry Christmas and Good New Year 1997 from the
land of Santa Claus(kp25gr). Hope to work you on six soon
ari/oh9nyw/kp25gr Dec 25th was the best Es so far this summer and
went up to 144 Mhz at 0200z. Gil FK8BG was worked on
50.120 at around 0400z. No ZL's today but worked VK1,VK2,
        VK3, VK4, VK5 VK6 VK7 and VK8. All states in less than 2
hours. The VK8 no show is due to VK8ZLX now being out of
state for good and Geoff VK8GF being very busy. The boys
in Darwin say they are active, but if you are not
"One of them" all you get is funny business,
when the band is open, despite the paths being 4000 km
long. The beacon has been heard day after day and many
call but few make contacts. VK6 is rare this season. I
heard VK6APZ make a 4000 km QSO with ZL3TY and have
worked VK6YU but thats all. The 49 TV the other day was
the best since Jan 1996. No JA QSO's yet but will soon
occur. Hopefully in time to claim the summer distance
record from the UKSMG. Happy Xmas, Peace and Goodwill. Merry Christmas everyone. Looks like the winter Es
is starting to peak - Italian video on 53.760 currently
S9+. Happy Xmas everyone, from the colonies. The new
data base with over 100 upgrades has been uploaded to
GJ4ICD and G3WOS and should appear on the CD and on the
data base. Sorry about the updates on packet, but many
ops have no internet. To JA boys Is anyone active up in
japan? Today was another missed opportunity when I had
Vladivostok TV at 0512 to 0530z. On Dec 15th Kerry ZL2TPY
had the JA2IGY beacon at 0500z I had JA/RC Nob at 0454 so
did VK5PO. The classic indicators were in today with
VK4ABP beacon, and VK8 before the afternoon duct formed
between the intense local mean time E's and the F2 as ten
opened. The MUF was above 30 Mhz to Asia and the 6M stuff
just whizzes on through like it does each day at around
0400z to 0500z. I monitor 28.885 for what it is worth and
29.600 FM. I will call on 50.100 CW to get away from the
daily pack on 50.110. Let me know if you hear anything.
No response from ZS6 about the ten metre beacon, and i
hear on the grape vine that they are not permitted to
mention about any out of band frequencies including TV. A
writer for radio comm's magazine, when inquiring about
air band frequencies, was asked which cellblock he wanted
to stay in during his visit to Africa. Is this for real?
I notice that there is very little infor about African
low frequency transmissions between 30 and 50 Mhz. 73 de

73'S...BOB Today 13/12/96 was frustrating to sit on 50 Mhz
        from 0430z copying the VK8RAS beacon PG66 the VK8VF
Beacon in Darwin and both 49.7504 TV video and some
48.240/250/260 from 325 degrees and unable to tell
anyone. I put a message up on OH2BUA's HF cluster because
I didnt have the time to find the 50 Mhz cluster. Now the
band has finally faded down I have time to tell you all
about today. the first auroral e's for years (1991) the
first Asiatic TV for over 12 months. the solar figures
dont tell you a thing. They never do! We are primed to be
caught with pur pants down just like in 1988. I predict
sadly that the first time you will hear about an opening
to VK is after the event, unless we come up with a
strategy to alert each other. The window could be as
little as 10 minutes, barely time to get up ontp the
Internet and post a message. When I first saw this
technology I thought we had it made. After todays false
alarm Im not so sure. All I will say is this... After 5
years of working DX into Europe and one of the very few
VK3's to ever make the grade, IF YOU DONT HAVE A
STRATEGIC PLAN YOU WILL MISS OUT. Work something out now
not in december 1998. Ask me and I will tell you when the
windows occur out to 16000 kM and how to work East Coast
VK3. The solar cycle will improve despite the figures and
despite all the telling. Today was a classic example of
being unable to raise a single JA.. I heard one cw call I
think it was JA8RC. Kerry ZL2TPY is hearing US pagers
daily on 35 Mhz. We are staring to get E's extensions to
F and the 30 Mhz band is full of Asian CBers. The 49 TV
today was out at 8000 or 10000 kM beacuse in my North
West that is the closest land fall from, QF12. Please
tell me what you are hearing. Are you monitoring 46 Mhz
and 45 Mhz? Keep in touch. My fax is 613 55 712222 phone
is 613 55723333. See you on the magic band HI, I try to find for a FR station all beacons on 6
and 2 m in VK and ZS. This station is very interesting by
VHF. Please send me an E-mail to give me all
informations. If yiu are interested by FR country, I can
organize an expedition from this island. Please your
comments. Happy Christmas and have good time on 6 m. Hearing GB3LER beacon aurorally in IO75. Might be
worth a listen later, around midnight maybe as not too
strong at moment. Please listen out for me. I don't know
if this is the correct place to let people know or not as
i have only been online for 2 days. 73. Hello ALL 6m DX-er ! This is Charly OE3KLU from

is being reviewed by the powers that be. They contacted
me today to ask some more questions. Will know more after
Xmas............. Hearing some scatter on 50.125 (shower
starting to peak up a bit, eh?) Thought I just heard a
W7-something for about 3 sec. Could be, as w7's are now
        working across the South.............To G W 0 G E I: I
sent you an email regarding the beacon antenna. Did you
get it ? CU on the magic band. UKSMG#886 and proud of it!
Over Dec 7th 8th great Trans-tasman DX. The MUF got
to 144 Mhz and ZL4 worked VK3 on 2M and had 146 FM
repeaters in as well at 0830z. On dec 8th in the
afternoon I copied a two way QSO between VK6APZ esperence
WA in PF06 and ZL3TY in RE66 about 4000 km. This is the
earliest we have had this type of path. The VK3SIX
beacons have been reoriented to ZS6 today and placed on
        the following frequencies. 10M 28.293 MHz.25 watts to 5
el yagi at 110 feet. 6M 50.293 MHz. 15 watts to 9 el yagi
at 100 feet. Please fax 613 55712222 anytime or call 613
55723333 if you hear anything 73 and good hunting from
VK3OT Regarding Beacon GB3SIX Hi all. Good news! Tony
GW4VEQ and myself will be transporting the Isle of
Anglesey beacon down to S.England next week to deliver it
to the owner for repair/refurbishment. We have identified
a couple of promising alternative sites on the island
following our rescue of the non functioning beacon from
its previous site at the north of the island. We hope to
get the beacon back on the air as possible after repair
from either a temporary site or its new permanent site.
Question is WHAT SORT OF ANTENNA DO THE MAJORITY WANT? It
previously ran into a 3 ele yagi beaming NW for
backscatter tests to North America. We think that some
form of omnidirectional antenna might be better for the
next cycle and for inter eu tropo tests. WHAT DO YOU
THINK? PLease email me. CAN YOU HELP with a new antenna
for the beacon? (The previous one was badly damaged in
the storms and fell to peices when we pulled the mast
down at the beacons former site (This property has been
sold, and we bought the remaining towers on the site).
Please email me if you can help with an antenna. 73 Steve
GW0GEI Mike, CY9 is still a much wanted country in Europe,
very few have worked it unlike FP. So my vote is for CY9!
I am sure the UKSMG would look favourably on such a
DXpedition! What do others think? 73 Chris HELLO AGAIN I KNOW THIS IS AN EARLY
ANNOUNCEMENT,BUT WHY NOT. THIS JUNE PROBABLY JUNE 5 I
WILL AGAIN GO TO THE BAHAMAS FL16. PLANNING TO STAY 14
DAYS THIS TIME AND HOPE TO ADD MORE EUROPEAN CONTACTS AND
W6 W7 Qs. I HOPE TO HAVE A BEACON FOR 6 AND 2 METERS. ANY
ONE WANTING TO HELP WITH ANTENNAS FOR THE BEACONS WOULD
BE A GREAT HELP. I AM NOW WORKING ON GETTING PARTS FOR
JERRY WA8R WHO WILL AGAIN HELP WITH THIS PROJECT. IT
WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT HIM. YOU MIGHT WANT TO SEND
HIM SOME E-MAIL AND THANK HIM FOR HIS EFFORTS. JERRY
BUILT THE V44K AND J3EOC BEACONS WHICH MYSELF,WB8GEX,AND

WZ8D Hello Magic-band Nuts!!! Am sitting here in the
shack looking at the yard filled with snow contemplating
my next dxpedition. Wonder if there is much call for St.
Paul Isl. CY9 on the 6m band in EU ? I know the group
that went there 2 years ago made some QSO's into Europe,
but I haven't researched yet just how many. I believe
they were a w9/w0 bunch, possibly including k0sd? I heard
them on scatter but never managed a Q. They did work at
least a few hundred Stateside (again I don't know EXACTLY
hw mni but I did hear the hoards calling them. Barring
cy9, I think maybe I'll go to either fp, vo2 or vo1 and
try to span the Atlantic on 2m. Now wouldn't that be fun?
If I do set up cy9 (or whatever) the emphasis will still
be 6m, with maybe 160m thrown in for good measure-hi!
check out my new homepage which shows my new 6m antenna.
More on this in the coming weeks.
